Bart Lombardo of Panfish on the Fly came to our Fly Tying Symposium this last winter of 2026 and was interested to see our new PHAT GLASS. I remember it well. It was a gloomy gray day and you could tell it was getting ready to rain. Bart grabbed the rod we had on display and headed for the door. A lot of people knew Bart, and he had been talking about the rod all day. Needless to say, as he went out the door, a number of people followed. I could not leave the table and was quite curious. He came in after a long while. Soaking wet, he was still wearing his gentle smile. I was really worried that he was going to be himself and politely tell me " its nice" and set it down. He smiled bigger and with a loud voice told me that he loved it. "I want one!"
Here it is. Its a fast action 8 foot 8 weight 4 piece S-Glass fly rod. The rod is a joy to cast and is amazing as to how close to carbon it feels, yet still has the soul of glass.
After a lot of collaboration and even a demo trip with Bart taking the rod to Maine to fish. Here it is for sale.
Every one of these rods will get a hand painted reel seat by Jeff Kimball. NOTE: this reel seat is hand painted artwork, it is not a decal. We are super proud to support a local artist, and he deserves it. It is even based on a photo that Bart sent Jeff.
Every rod also gets a custom retro label with the customers name on it. This one says made for Bart Lombardo, but yours will have your name on it. Also you will notice a couple swirl thread wraps to nod to the old days of the WonderRod and other old Glass Rods of yesterday. Bart and I thought that was a nice touch. You will also note that this rod label says 7-8 weight. That also is a nod to the old days when rods were usually read and labeled as a "this or that" fly line. Bart and I talked a lot about lines. I designed the rod initially as a 7, but after many iterations, we got the taper right, but I like it with a straight 8 weight grain line. None the less, you can make the rod feel even faster with a 7 weight line or 7 weight bass taper feel s nice too.
My signature and Jeffs are on on the bottom of the rod. There is also a sketch of Barts frog fly on the blank above the label.
