Function: At JP Ross Fly Rods, we were presented with a mission; Design a fly rod in only a select range of line weights to actually cast and feel accurate. After setting these goals, our team began experimenting in different forms of graphite and tapers. We found that the medium fast action fly rod appeared to perform the best in all the following criteria; dry fly presentations, roll casting, haul induced casting, short casts, deep nymphing, and accuracy casting. Searching for the gap in our fly rod line took nearly 3 years to define. We had already designed a great beginner series casting rod, a medium action fly rod with the ability to cast long distances with ease, an ultra fast action rod for wind, saltwater and big flies, and a pack rod. We wanted to build a rod that could be appreciated by the full-blooded fly fisher traditionalist. Create a fly rod that the coldwater and warm water angler would truly enjoy. A fly rod that simply felt good to cast, and would excel at freshwater angling. We wanted to design a rod that felt so fluid to cast that it actually was more accurate than all other rods we had produced. The JP Ross Fly Rod team admitted that each one of us had a rod we kept in the corner of the house. A rod we only used when we new it was the perfect time. A rod that we enjoyed casting so much, we only used it on occasion. Enjoying the experience of fly-casting was what we all enjoyed. It was this experience, this emotion that we
wanted to accentuate.
The design started with our graphite and our taper. From this aspect we looked for a way to efficiently allow line travel in the critical part of the cast, the acceleration and shooting. What was created was a new style of guide transition which actually assisted in allowing the rod to track better and allow an even easier travel of line with the least amount of uncontrolled resistance. Our fly rod is so efficient in transferring energy that it actually casts accurately without a tip top. This system touches upon one criteria that we cannot control but remains essential, the angler, hence the name Synenergy as in synergy. Our guide system will not work without its matching blank, and will not cast without the angler. In fact this guide system choked the line speed on our k357, and did nothing to assist the 43t, 36t, and Adams series we had already developed. As well as creating a great casting rod, we wanted to continue our tradition of building elegant looking casting tools. This rod is built in electric blue and accented with pewter blue thread. Our reel seat is ultra light weight aluminum, machined and anodized pewter with tulip wood insert. The rod is finished with a powder coated aluminum rod tube.
