In 1997 JP Ross Fly Rods was established. It was a division of a fly shop located in Central New York known as Rising Trout Outfitter. Originally it was faced with one task. Design and build a fly rod for less than $100. It must cast well, have a good warranty, and leave the consumer with a satisfied feeling of value and quality. This fly rod was known as the Adams, named after the ever popular dry fly. Our company offered an added feature on every rod we built. Each rod was personalized with the customers name on it, and featured a real feather inlayed into the graphite at no additional charge. In our first year we sold nearly 100 rods to our local customers. In our second year we decided to increase the perspective of our company and introduce 2 more rod lines to our series. From this point in our lifespan we began to sell fly rods to other consumers outside our region. We also began building a fly rod for the Sagamore Lodge in Racquette Lake, and The Remington Arms Shooting School. JP Ross Fly Rod Company always kept our mission to build an affordable rod with high quality graphite and components and always offer a personalized service that many manufacturers overlook.
Today we feature a number of fly rods in our line, including a 5-piece travel rod, medium fast action freshwater series, an ultra fast performance rod, and new this year a 5 piece rod for less than $200, hand wrapped in Utica, New York. The JP Ross Fly Rod Company still builds every rod for each customer individually. Every rod can be built with the customers name on it, serial numbered, and features a life time insurance policy. Even if a rod is purchased from one of our dealers, that rod can be sent to the factory at any time for a free feather inlay and personalization. All our fly rods can be seen on our web site, or can be seen at our dealers in the North East. Recently we have opened our services to other fly shops and lodges, offering custom boutique rods. Small or large fly shops can now design and have a unique one of a kind fly rod built for their shop and their individual market. A shop in the Catskills, Adirondacks or on the coast, for example, can have a fly rod built especially for their type of fishing environment and their type of customer.
Every consumer product out in the market has a multi-leveled structure. There will always be a number of companies building fly rods, and then there will be companies like mine; a small home town shop with a few employees/friends, and a black lab under the desk named Montana. Every rod is made by hand with its own touch. We will service the customer the best way we can. We will customize your rod to degrees you did not even imagine, and one day you will sit back in your home on a cold off season day and look at your rod tubes in the corner. Just to put a smile on your face you will reach for one and pull it out. That rod will be a JP Ross Rod, built for you with your name on it. That is the scope of our customer satisfaction and the level of our service, and that is what separates us from all the others. Our customers come first. All rods have my name on it and they do not leave with out being top quality.
