7 foot 6 inch 4 weight 3 piece Kabuto Fiberglass fly rod for small streams

Over a month ago my friend and customer Jason Bristol told me he waned me to make him a new glass fly rod. I was excited to do this for him, especially when he told me it would be on a Kabuto Blank. The blank he chose was a 7'6" 4 weight 3 piece.

Now I have made well over 5000 fly rods in my life as a custom fly rod builder; there is just something about a Kabuto Blank that turns me on and gets me excited. I would recon that I probably went through about 200 Jimmy Buffett songs, a case of beer, and many a free moment staring at this blank in the workshop before I started building on it.

I recently have done a few trips, and also have been really busy at my day job as a product manager; so I knew the moment had to be right to work on such a great blank. This blank had traveled all the way from Japan, a country I love to visit, and also a country that has a sense for quality control unmatched by any other culture.

What you can see here is that the rod is on its way, and Jason and I, with the help of Cameron at the Fiberglass Manifesto, decided to go with Titanium Carbide guides to accent the milk white blank, and also go with a white thread (my idea). Jason told me he wanted an accent color and he also chose Box Elder for the wood. So a very small accent stripe was added to the ferrules. What do you think so far?

I am totally for hire to make these rod for anyone, just email me. jpross@jprossflyrods.com
