The video is an overview on how to buy one of our custom rods and what attributes you can have customized.

I have made fly rods as a business since 1997.  About 6 or 7 years ago I took my love of materials and began working in electronics materials for Indium Corporation, but still kept building rods.  I think the fact that I work with design engineers all over the world, day in and day out doing the same thing, I feel this urge to do more and more creative stuff with my fly rod company to build a fly rod that is a reflection of both the user, me and the Adirondack Mountains.  Over the last few years, we have done more and more to offer new ideas to our customers and followers.  This video is just a simple video  to try to bring all this to the customer so that they get an idea of what we can do and how we think at JP Ross.  I also added a little fishing video at the end from my last trip to Canada.  Please enjoy it.  I know it is long... sorry.

I am so pro American Labor it probably is borderline annoying to some people.  But I travel around the globe sometimes 6 times a year, looking at circuit boards being soldered and hand held devices being assembled in Asia, that I absolutely know in my heart that I never want my Cross on a product that is made like that.  It is a different perspective in my shoes.  Been there, done that and have the stomach cramps and passport to prove it.

My fly rods are made by my company, in a cabin, next to two black labs, which are next to a coffee machine and a half empty bottle of scotch for those cold upstate NY nights. 

I have track lighting and a full stereo system, generally playing Jimmy Buffet.

I sell fly fishing stuff so that I can make a profit and stay in business to support our customers for years to come, innovate and inspire the industry, and to allow me to afford to fish as much as I do.  For 14 years I have done this, and I am proud that it has been done all in Utica, NY.  Home of Horricks Ibbotson, Martin Reels, Remington Guns, Ithaca Guns, Parker Shotguns, Fox Arms and so many acclaimed quality fishing and gun makers.  I feel it is in the water here that makes me do what I do.  Others make glass, spey, switch and bamboo rods better than us, but no one in the world makes a small stream fly rod with as much love and passion as we do.

We have heard it all, and the answer to all your worries is simple.  Look around the site, look at the pictures and look at the different models to get a rough idea of what you like... then just email me some of your thoughts.  Every rod we build is a journey for both of us, and because every single JP Ross Rod is built to order, the sky is the limit. 

If you are looking for super simplicity, I suggest you go right to our online store and take a look at the rods on that site.  Take note of the fly rod categories for a more simplified search.    From here you will find pull down menus for all the options we have.  In most cases you can just select none, and see what the rod totals.  You do not need to check out to get a total, and every order is eventually checked over by me personally and if I have any questions, I will email you.

Getting Started for the tech-y:

All JP Ross rods are made to order, so your journey begins by choosing a blank that is best suited for you. To get started you can download the 2010 blank specification sheet from the  Data Sheet site which will give you all the blanks that we currently offer.  Then we recommend you go to our build your own rod feature to virtually build your rod.  Take note of the attributes you like, because there are more than you think.  Take some notes on a seperate sheet of paper perhaps.  There are many attributes to choose from and taking a look at our product data sheets may also be a good idea so that you don't miss any features that may be of interest to you. A lot of people like the rod blanks and overview data sheet or the reel seat data sheet.

Now you are ready to go to our Excel order form.  This is for the true techy at heart.  Here you will see all our blanks, and all our options.  The sheet will total at the bottom.  Also make sure you look at all the tabs on the bottom.  Now just save and email this to us for a quote.  Be sure to tell us what you think and what your concerns are. You will get a reply with a possible discounted price, because many attributes can be made cheaper when we do them all at once.
