It is a hybrid blend of IM6 graphite with 57 million modules fabric that makes for a highly durable and light weight rod.
Things like pigmented high gloss resins only add weight. The ONYX does not have those. It has a matte gray finish, slim ferrules and a butt section ultra slim diameter that will make you wonder if you have a 6 weight or a 3 weight.
If you are a West Coast dry fly fisherman or a guy that frequents the Delaware River in NY and PA. This is the rod.

The ONYX: This series of rods was developed to take the k357 action and make it crisper and faster. The blanks are black and the diameters are thin. This is the lightest series of rods we currently make. Made from a blend of 57 million modulus and IM6. The 9 foot 4 weight is a gem of a rod and can easily cast a 5 weight.

Onxy 9 foot 7 weight 4 piece with SUBLIME Green Accents
I recently had an order from a Customer is Russia. Valery wanted an ONYX fly rod and new exactly what they wanted. The order came in, and when i was building it I found some Sublime Green Accent Threads. Some of you may remember the sublime green color that was a MOPAR color back in the 60's and 70's. I forgot to weight the rod after it was done, but it was extremely light for a 9 foot 7 weight. The blank weight of this rod is 2 oz, so I expect this rod ended up less than 3 oz in total weight. Valery also chose to have this rod built with recoil Guides.
We also went with the JP Ross Crest on the rod case cap with black on black. I think the case is one of the coolest parts of the rod.
The unfortunate truth is that UPS damaged to rod on its way to its destination and after a very long fiasco with UPS claims dept, I may get penny's back. After over 5000 fly rods I have built and shipped, they insisted to tell me that I may have taped it improperly. Oh, well, what are you going to do... right.
Well my new Russian friend was understanding about the whole ordeal and is allowing me to re-build the rod rather than just take a credit and never buy from me again. I am very grateful.
However, I will make a few changes in the next version which will include recoil strip guides rather than Titanium guides, and I also may go with the stretched cross rather than the small centered cross.
