David Chew Smitty

Dave is our body guard and local certified NYS licensed Guide. He owns a drift boat and is often found floating clients on the West Canada Creek for JP. He is also available for Corporate Trips. Dave is a big guy with a lot of heart. If you are interested in a float on the West Canada you can reach Dave direct at 315-272-8858. He only guides on the side so it is best to call well in advance to work around his schedule, however because of this he usually offers a discounted rate. Partridge Hill Club by JP Ross Fly Rods

Partridge Hill is a Bed and Breakfast estate on the banks of the West Canada Creek Trophy Section in Upstate NY in the town of Barneveld.  It is the first and only Bed and Breakfast on the trophy section.  The estate and land consists of barn's, brook trout streams, 2 bass ponds, and easy access to the river.

We are 1 hour from Syracuse and 15 minutes from Utica NY.  We are also 15-30 minutes from Western Central Adirondacks, and 40 minutes from Old Forge, NY.  Nearby Towns include Poland, Herkimer, Middleville, Remsen, Marcy, and Speculator.

Experience the Partridge Hill Estate:

At JP Ross, we wanted to create an experience for people.  We love the West Canada and we are all about preserving it.  However there is a constant battle in our minds when we find a place so beautiful;  keep it to ourselves, or share it?  We, with the Adams Family who owns the estate, have decided to do both.  By managing the estate, Partridge Hill will allow only limited access to the river.  For example, we only allow 12 float trips a year, and currently are limiting the number of people that can stay on the estate at one time, and per year.  We are doing this for many reasons; the river needs to be preserved as well as utilized, the estate can only handle so much traffic, and lastly… the Adams family also appreciates what they have and they wish to use it exclusively as well.

As the owner of JP Ross Fly Rods I will only endorse people and companies I believe in.  Our intention to work with Partridge Hill is first and foremost to conserve and help protect the West Canada Creek.  By spending time on the river, you learn more about the river and how to manage it.  All traffic and use of the grounds will be strictly managed to preserve the serenity of the West Canada and Partridge Hill.  JP Ross

Wake up on the banks of the West Canada Creek:

Partridge Hill is literally right on the river.  From our screened in back porch it is only 100 feet to the banks of the Trophy Section.  Wake up to the murmur of the riffle at your doorstep.  Get to the river earlier than everyone else… fish later… park your car once and leave your troubles away.

It's not just for the fisherman:

Meet new people while lounging on the porch, smoke a cigar, have a hot tea, fish, paint, read a book… its all up to you. Below is a Video Concept of what the Partridge Hill Club can become.  Currently we are focused only on fly fishing schools, but soon we wish to incorporate boat building, painting classes, macramé, bird watching and photography.  If you have a group and wish to break out from the norm and experience something new and Adirondack, please call us for special programs such as these.

Arkansas has huge Trout... get to know Chuck

Ozark trout fishing on Arkansas tail-waters is one of the South's best kept secrets. However, the awareness of world class trout fishing is increasing on these waters as anglers experience some of the best fly fishing in the world. The uniqueness of tail-water fishing brings a variety of techniques that can enhance your fishing skills and heighten your level of experience as you pursue the trout, or any other species with a fly. Allow us to be your host as you explore and enjoy all that Arkansas can provide, from fishing, to a comfortable stay at Driftwood Lodge on the banks of the Little Red River in Heber Springs, Arkansas.

Driftwood Lodge is owned and operated by Chuck and Sherry Farneth. As a family, they will make you feel right at home with gourmet meals, deluxe rustic accommodations, relaxing atmosphere, and great fishing. More information on the lodge can be found at www.driftwoodlodgeonline.net. In addition to all the amenities Driftwood Lodge provides, Chuck will share nearly half a century of fly fishing experience that he has acquired from Connecticut to Alaska as well as saltwater fishing from the West Indies to Hawaii.

Chuck Farneth was introduced to fly fishing for trout in Pennsylvania. Fishing mountain streams and brooks created a mentality and skill that has enabled him to be successful on any trout water. In his words, Chuck explains that "catching fish is always fun, but learning how to catch fish is a passion". That is why he spends so much time with his fly fishing schools and guiding on his home waters. The fishing is easy enough that you will have ample time and opportunity to learn how to become a better angler with a fly. It can also be challenging enough to stretch your knowledge as you have fun.

Chuck has competed in the ESPN Great Outdoor Games from 2000-2004 garnering three medals in fly fishing including a gold medal in 2001. He won the Northeast Regional Fly Fishing Masters in 2004. Chuck is a certified casting instructor through the Federation of Fly Fishers. Since 2005 he has retired from competitions and concentrates on teaching the fine art of fly fishing on the rivers in Arkansas and operating Driftwood Lodge.

Big Brook Trout at 3 Rivers Lodge

I have had the pleasure of fishing 3 Rivers Lodge, and in my recent book Adirondack Flies I talk a lot about 3 Rivers Lodge. The people at 3 Rivers make the difference, not the fish or the fishing. Robin Reeve the owner is a friend of mine, and he does a great job. If you are interested in learning more, email me for details.

Enjoy the Video.  It speaks for itself.

If you are interersted in a trip please email me and I can get you in touch with 3 Rivers.
